After the hard work of this month, the cultural identity unit is finish.
I think I’ve got something from this unit. Like poster assignment, at first I thought the work is troublesome, I feel lazy about the work. But after I started working on the poster, I feel it is much interesting than I thought. Finally, I done an excellent poster, at least I think so.
If you ask me what I learn in this unit, actually the answer is not really related to the unit itself. I learn about how to face the serious job which you have a responsibility to finish it. It is a important idea for my life. And I’m looking forward to my future. =)

Diversity cultures are put together in America by keeping their cultural identity . But the most important thing is respecting difference.
Salad is mixture of any green vegetables .
They can make a great taste, even if they look different .
As salad have a wonderful taste of harmony, When they respect mutual cultures and customs, they can live together beautifully and peacefully .
I must say america is more closer 'salad bowl'.
One of example is that every people enjoy their own country holiday and have a special festival in America.
I can enjoy not only america culture but also korea culture in America without any obstacle.

Cultural Identity -HyeJung

Above three pictures were taken in Seoul, Korea. They attened St. Patrick day parade which is Irish traditional day. Last year I saw same parade in Chicago even though I still don't know what exactly is. I want to ask all, "Does that show melting pot or salad bowl?" It's very hard to figure out because it could be both. Irish people try to keep their traditions, it means the pictures represent 'salad bowl'. On the other hand, Korean participated that parade for fun or for supporting them, whatever, it means close to 'melting pot'.

It might be appropreate answer that figuring the meaning out is not necessary because our world has been changed a lot and we need to keep up with that.

About Cultural Identity

What is your culture identity in the U.S.? Do you think the American culture is a “salad bowl” or “melting pot”? According to the cultural identity unit of the book “Mirror on America”, I found out some authors are the first generation immigrants in the U.S. They tried to fit in the American society. But, at the same time, they felt that they were strangers in the U.S.; some authors are the first or second generation American; they wanted people to accept them equally, no matter what the personal appearances are. On the other hand, some authors wanted to tell the similarities of Americans, but some authors told us about human nature, “people want to around others who are roughly like themselves. That’s called a community.” All these diversities exist in the U.S. By my opinion, American culture is like a “salad bowl”; it can let many ethnicities or races stay in the same society. But nowadays, our traditions are losing little by little. One day, our descendants will build a new society. What will the society culture look like? I have no idea! Let our descendants to do that.

hey everyone! i am jonathan.i know this post is not mine, but i like it. for some reason, it looks awesome and great. she introduced special cultures about china. the great wall is one of the most miracle architectures in the world. it was made by a lot of people, for protected country. even though, they spent a lot of money and energy, we always praise them for created the great wall. it becomes a famous art all over the world and attract a lot of visitors. it is a symbol of spirit in the china, also chinese is proud of the great wall. it looks like dragon who is sleeping in mountain. actually, she displayed different cultures in post, such like tea and panda. they also become cultures in the world.

American Cultures and Me

I have come to the U.S for almost 3 years, and i have learned many American cultures that now become a part of my normal life forever. Chicago is my home now. However, there is still another place in the U.S that is always in my heart. Seattle City, the Queen city, was the first city I had been in America; I was attractived by its natures and people of the city. Seattle City would be always the best city i have ever known and lived. Another thing i learned from American is "Rock & Roll" . Rock musics wouldn't be in my favorites 3 years ago, yet "Smile Plan" had change my idea about rock. Their musics are the best musics i have known; they help me to express all my emotions about life. "Simple Plan" will be always the band that beats inside my head. Learning English, a new language, would be the most challenging thing I have adopted from American culture. American cultures have influenced to my life since I came to America; I learnt a lot from it. However, there are still a lot of things American culture I need to learn to be an American and to be fix with this society.

I have choose this pictures to show that how I changed my self. When I was in India I was used to wear traditional clothes on celebrations and events. After coming to US I have changed my dressing and accepted US dressing. Now I wear dresses on celebration and events. I enjoy wearing my traditional clothes but do to the American society I have changed my dressing.I dress the way so I wont look different and can fit in the society.
