For three years, I lived in a country that wasn't my own, I started to adapt to it, and I adjusted to it as my new culture. My breakfast now is Mac Donald, lunch is Subways, it is no longer the rice which is the main meal for Vietnamese people. Sometime, I thought that I lost my own culture. However, after learning the section about "Identity Culture", I realized that my own culture wasn’t melted. I just adapted to a new culture and learned a new way to lived. It reminded me that I am Vietnamese, and the Vietnamese culture would always be in my blood, whatever happens.

Hi Friends This is Radha

From this culture identity unit I learned the idea of melting pot and the salad bowl. Melting pot meant people try to mix in with each other and they all have same identity. It was used to be like that my years ago. But not any more people defend America as salad bowl. People want to keep their identity, like you can tell difference among people so easily. And I also learned that how people judge other people based on same race. After reading the story about “public enemy” I know how other people fell when they are judge as bad people when they are not.

"Cultural Identity"
"Cultural Identity"
The most important thing that I learned on this section,"Cultural Identity" is that every one has a different cultures, but not because of that someone is better than others. I leaned that when we come to this country, we maybe felt that we are not on home or we are felt that we are not on home or we are strange on many culture that why is the country of "Salad bowl". Also I love the idea of how other cultures people participated in others culture event and how we mix our culture with other culture. After read this section I felt more comfortable.

When we were born, we didn't know what our nationality is and what our culture is. By education, we have been realizing it; where I am and who I am in this world little by little. Every nation has their own culture and identity. It could seem very interesting or it could not. However, I see this thing on the other way. Every culture is special and precious regardless of human's viewpoint, I think. God made and gave each of us the same happiness and same goodness for our life. Even though we are looked very different, we are actually same in this world, on the planet Earth, as a human being. In terms of that, to learn other culture is very worthwhile. On this mean, this work helped us to understand not only American culture but other countries' culture and our own culture&identity going one step further.

Cultural Identity
Nowadays, America is like a large Salas Blow because it has diverse people who come from other countries, religion, speak different languages and other. In addition, they would maintain their culture in American. For instance, Chinese people would celebrate Chinese New Year in Chinatown. Although Americans don't know how Chinese people to celebrate, they know what Chinese New Year is.In this unit, I didn't learn morn America culture that before but I realize how people feel about their background. For example, "They've got to Be Carefully Taught". It makes me know when I ask someone about his/her background information, I should think about his/her feeling.
cultural identity

after i began to study the pop culture, i learned some information of different culture. However, you ask me to tell what is cultural identity, i just can get the general idea. in my opinion, American culture is like a melting pot, everything mix together, but still keep the special thing. last weekend was Chinese new year, it was lively in chinatown. After I came to the U.S. i have already not been adapt to this festival. i have to work in this holiday is one of the reasons. in america, i also enjoy the holiday like thanksgiving, christmas. i think that is cultural identity.
culture identity

what is the culture identity? i do not know. it is very difficult to explain who this is. in order to help me explain, i just post two pictures. one is red packet another one is chinese feast. there excaly express differentiate amercian culture between chinese culture. almost chinese they have red packet from elder, also they have feast for who are invited. Cultural Identity-Sue!
It is very difficult to explain what cultural identity is. When I read “They’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught”, it reminded me of my situation. I am supposed to study and understand about cultural identity more than other students, because I have an American husband and family and Korean family. In the near future, we may have a baby. She or He! Actually I’d like to have a daughter, so I want to say ‘She’. She will be half Korean and half American. As she gets older, she may be confused of her appearance and situation. She has to live in both countries America and Korea. If she wants to accept only American culture, what can I do? In order for her to understand our cultural identity, I should understand my own cultural identity exactly. I’ll teach her Korean custom like how to bow to elder people at holiday, how to use chopsticks, how to speak Korean language and how respect elder people. I’ll also teach her American custom like how to greet pleasantly, how to use a fork and how to speak English. She can talk to Korean family and American family and work both countries. I hope that she keeps her cultural identities as Korean and American and not lose her originality.

In this unit, the most important thing that i have learned is the differences between all of us. Each one of us is from different country, with different lifestyle, language and culture; however we all share a big interest in getting to know new things, trying to comprehend them and accept. I enjoyed making my poster and learning new ideas from my classmates posters. By doing this project, i discovered new things about your cultural identity! :)
What's the CULTURE IDENTITY?

What’s the culture identity? We live in the same world, breathing the same air, using the same energy……We can travel to almost counties in the world and we can communicate with each other, although we speak different language. Wherever you go you still can use internet to call your friends and parents. Just like us saty in America. The distance is far but feels like close.
Nowadays the world likes a big family. We have different color, different religion, different culrure background. We still get together. That is the identity----lovely, peaceful.
Culture Identity
In this cultural Identity unit i learn a lot of information of American culture. The cluture in the U.S is more proper like a salad bowl. Because the salad bowl means the integration of the many different cluture of Unites States residents combine like a salad, as opposed to the more prolific notion of a cultural melting pot. Like many immigrantion are integration in U.S, they also kept their culture and concept american culture. Like this picture chinese people celebrate Chinese National Day in chinatown. These few days are Chinese New Year, we celebrate and got a lucky money from the married. A various cluture in U.S like salad bowl mix many ingredients in it.CULTURE IDENTITY~

Last week, my families and i just celebrated our Chinese New Year. The Year Of Tiger. We prepared lots of delicious traditional chinese food. My parents gave me a red packet with money inside. One of my native friends visited my house and celebrated with us. She brought her own red packet for us, but she didn't know the fact that olders give the red packet to the young children.
However, she surprised us even she just know a part of story of the red packet. I realized more and more American know and are interested in Chinese culture. For example, i could see "Chinese New Year is coming" when i was in supermarket. That means chinese and chinese culture are effecting people around. On the other hand, the people from other countries are effecting us at the same time. That is the power of the culture.
After the hard work of this month, the cultural identity unit is finish.I think I’ve got something from this unit. Like poster assignment, at first I thought the work is troublesome, I feel lazy about the work. But after I started working on the poster, I feel it is much interesting than I thought. Finally, I done an excellent poster, at least I think so.
If you ask me what I learn in this unit, actually the answer is not really related to the unit itself. I learn about how to face the serious job which you have a responsibility to finish it. It is a important idea for my life. And I’m looking forward to my future. =)

cultural identity (yejin)

Diversity cultures are put together in America by keeping their cultural identity . But the most important thing is respecting difference.
Salad is mixture of any green vegetables .
They can make a great taste, even if they look different .
As salad have a wonderful taste of harmony, When they respect mutual cultures and customs, they can live together beautifully and peacefully .
I must say america is more closer 'salad bowl'.
One of example is that every people enjoy their own country holiday and have a special festival in America.
I can enjoy not only america culture but also korea culture in America without any obstacle.

About Cultural Identity

What is your culture identity in the U.S.? Do you think the American culture is a “salad bowl” or “melting pot”? According to the cultural identity unit of the book “Mirror on America”, I found out some authors are the first generation immigrants in the U.S. They tried to fit in the American society. But, at the same time, they felt that they were strangers in the U.S.; some authors are the first or second generation American; they wanted people to accept them equally, no matter what the personal appearances are. On the other hand, some authors wanted to tell the similarities of Americans, but some authors told us about human nature, “people want to around others who are roughly like themselves. That’s called a community.” All these diversities exist in the U.S. By my opinion, American culture is like a “salad bowl”; it can let many ethnicities or races stay in the same society. But nowadays, our traditions are losing little by little. One day, our descendants will build a new society. What will the society culture look like? I have no idea! Let our descendants to do that.

In the top left, these has two pictures about novels of ZITA LAW who is a famous author form Hong Kong. Many Hong Kong people like reading so government hold book exhibition in every year and the price is very cheap. In the center of picture, the man wears mask because in 2003, Hong Kong had a trouble disease-"SARS ". In that year, everybody wear mask for wherever they went, such as school, work place, shopping mall. However, some people dead in that catastrophe. In addition, there has a picture about Chinese Zodiac Sign in bottom right. Chinese Zodiac Sign is like horoscope. It can predict about how lucky you are and what bad luck you will have. And upon this picture, it is Kelly Clarkson and S.H.E( who is a famous girl group in Taiwan). Many Hong Kong young people love listen music, Japanese, Korean, American and Chinese. For this poster, I want to explain about my country culture and lifestyle. I hope you would like it!

Abercrombie&Fitch is my favourite clothing brand. . In my country dosen't have A&F store. When I went to New York in 2008 and found it. I was so excited. I like it!
Gossip Girl is my favourite American drama. It talks about the life in American high school and university.
Lie to me also is my Amrican drama I like. When somebody tell the lie the peoson can find the truth.

Ha Young Kim's Poster :)

Hey everyone, this is Salma :)
My poster is divided into two main parts. The first part is about my Mauritanian and Russian culture. While is the second part is about the U.S culture. To demonstrate my native culture, i included a couple of pictures of our traditional foods, our money and maps of our regions. Russian is known for their matryoshkas, they are hand made dolls that are placed one into the other. What i find very interesting about U.S culture is the Abrahan Lincoln, the 16th president of the U.S who ended the civil war. I totally enjoyed a few articles about his biography. When it comes to music, i am a big fan of Bob Marley, Marelyn Monroe and Ciara. Last but not least, I love the fact that American people celebrate holidays in a way that creates a very cheerful environment!!
It's about Jin
As you see, there are full of pictures.
They all represent my style and cultural identities.
There mainly divided into five parts:
Home, Living, Taste, Hobbies, Music
Then I’m going to introduce some of them to you. :]
I live here since I was born, you can say I am completely made in Hong Kong.
Although Hong Kong is just a tiny place on this planet,
it contains all my memories and my sense of belongings.
Maybe because of the rhythm and style is fit with me, Japanese Rock is the major part in my iPod.
But certainly, I also listen to British and American Rock, where they are the birthplace and the cradle of Rock. Like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queens, Bon Jovi.
It’s true, music is borderless.
No one will disagree that the Levi’s is one of greatest brand of American.
Well, it’s also the greatest invention of American, at least I think so.
In my opinion, jeans are not simple as it’s a kind of clothing only.
Casual, simple, durable, comfortable, good look… those characteristics of jeans can represent the style and cultural of American.
I mostly read Japanese comics, also Chinese or Korean.
I used to read American comic, but later, my impression of American comics is only about Super Man----full of heroic, and finally, my favorite American comics remains Garfield
I think comic (or animation) is a kind of cultural medium.
Each country has its own style of comic, which can truly represent and reflect the social custom, like American heroic comics, which can represent the idea of justice and freedom of American culture.

My culture
This first picture that I will like to explain you is the mariachi, because one thing that I love from my country is the music and the feeling that they make me feel when I hear them. Mariachis are musicians typical from Jalisco Mexico culture.
The second one is the food, like everyone loves their own native food, well me too!!LOL For me my native food remember me my family. The typical Mexican food is spicy I remember when my parents teach me how to control me when I eat spicy food now I can’t eat anything with hot salsa (hot peppers).
The Catholic Church is important place for my people and culture because; we group up believing on this religion, until you are not that spiritual person. Also the church is a cultural place.
